Description: Son of racing legend mario andretti, michael has himself carved out a very impressive career as a race car driver. andretti began his racing career in 1980, soon after graduatiing from high school in the formula ford ranks. he joined the premier north american open-wheel series championship auto racing teams (cart) in 1983 and soon established himself as a threat to win races. he won his first at long beach, in 1986, and to date has won a cart record 38 races, including the season championship in 1991, while driving for co-owner, screen legend paul newman. the only time andretti did not do well was his infamous sorty into formula 1, in 1993, where a series of accidents and mechanical woes ended his races. andretti has won more than $16 million dollars in prize money and taken 31 pole positions. he is definitely one of america's top names and drivers in the sport.
