Description: Jim (james) koch created samuel adams beer in 1984 and has since been known as a founding father of the american craft brewery movement. a harvard graduate, koch quit his consulting job and began brewing beer in his kitchen, using his great-great grandfather's 1870s recipe. the first batch koch brewed was boston lager. he started selling the beer door-to-door at boston bars and restaurants. he took boston beer public in 1995 and own a 26% stake. in 2019, the company sold more than $1 billion of over 60 types of beer. samuel adams acquired popular craft brewery dogfish head for $300 million in may 2019.
